The size of mobile phones has drastically changed over the past few years. The first generation of the mobile phone was huge, its external antenna and heavy weight made it unappealing to carry the phone with you at all times. Not long later, many new features were added and the phone’s dimensions became much smaller. Success depended strongly on the phone's size; the smaller the better. This resulted in Samsung's launch of the Ultraline series of high-end devices with a thickness of less than one centimeter. After that run of compact mobile phones, when innovation could not produce more in that regard, the functionality of the phone became more important again which is obvious when you see the Blackberry Curve 8900. Full QWERTY keyboards and large touchscreens started appearing on mobile phones due to the advance of the Internet and increasingly more SMS text messages. This appearance, combined with style and less weight, is likely to continue for the time being.

First impression with the BlackBerry 8900 

Similar to previous models, the Blackberry’s package has unfortunately remained unchanged. It's a simple matte black box. This is a pity since a few minor adjustments could turn this into a package with improved support of the product. Luckily, opening the package is worth it, because the design of the Blackberry Curve 8900 makes up for it. The phone seems to be a combination of the older Curve models and the Blackberry Bold. This new line serves Blackberry well, especially when you consider the private user. The full keyboard and the slim design combine functionality and manageability. Standard accessories of the smartphone are; a recharger, a data cable, a simple stereo headset, manuals, software and a very nice pouch. The included pouch features the BlackBerry logo and the monitor is automatically deactivated when the Blackberry 8900 is tucked into it. Obviously the set becomes a lot thicker when the phone is in the pouch.

Compared to the Blackberry Bold, the menu remained unchanged. Six shortcuts are placed on the main screen and upon opening the menu, 23 more icons will appear. It makes the menu quite busy, yet well-structured. Nearly everything you need, can be found here, which prevents you from having to dive into the menu. If you find it too much, it is possible to hide the unused applications in the menu. The operating system of the Blackberry mobile phone works smoothly and looks very beautiful at the same time. When touching an icon, a small animation is carried out and there is no long delay when loading a program. I never encountered any problems whatsoever like freezing with this Blackberry mobile phone nor with previous ones. The only minus is the fact that a white screen with simple text appears now and again, for example in the 'Settings' menu. This does not really go well with the new Blackberry look. It should have also been in the same neat, dark style like the rest of the menu.
